It Started With a Conversation.
What began as a shared frustration with the research application process became an idea for a different way of connecting students and researchers.
It began at a coffee shop.
Two Queen's University students sat down over coffee with the same frustration: finding a research position could feel unnecessarily difficult, especially when you were new to university and unsure where to start.
Somewhere between conversation, coffee, and an unfinished assignment, the earliest idea for ReseNeX took shape.
Talent existed on both sides.
Students wanted opportunities to learn, contribute, and develop research skills. Researchers often needed motivated students who could support their work.
The challenge was connecting the two without making students rely entirely on cold emails, prior connections, or knowing exactly how academia worked before they had ever entered it.
Build a better entry point.
ReseNeX was built around a simple principle: meaningful research experience should be more accessible regardless of a student's background, connections, or familiarity with academic systems.
Our process helps researchers connect with motivated students while ReseNeX takes on much of the coordination needed to bring those opportunities together.
Make access sustainable.
The next step is larger than simply creating more listings. We want to continue building institutional partnerships, strengthening student support, and expanding pathways into research.
That includes working toward more funded opportunities so financial circumstances do not determine who is able to participate meaningfully in research.
Research Has Room for More People.
The first opportunity can change the direction of a student's education. We want that first opportunity to be easier to find.
